Mixed oak communities dominate the surrounding slopes. This stand stretches from near the southen end of the WMA for perhaps 0.5 mi upstream.;This is a thin band that stretches along the SE facing side of Meadow Run and is very distinctive for this area. This stand is very well protected from sun by position due to the steepness of the ravine walls. Hemlock was formerly extremely important in this community and is dense in some places. Some trees still have some crown cover, but the understory is lost. Snags are almost all hemlock.
Representativeness
Cool low slope of mesic and northern species. Stand difficult to represent because of sporatic densities of a particular species. This plot is subjective to capture an even cover of species with the stand. Red maple is actually more common than sugar.
